Fun With A Ball

Nana and Gramps came over for a visit this evening. We had a lot of fun with them and Rebecca really enjoyed the time with them, especially since she had been asking for them all day. In this particular shot, Rebecca has a ball stuck inside her shirt and thinks it is absolutely the most hilarious thing ever.

In the photography realm, I have been doing a lot of reading on using the flash effectively. In particular I read a great blog series by Neil van Niekerk. His insights into Flash Photography Techniques were very helpful and gave me some excellent ideas to try using bounce flash, fill flash and everything in between. I even learned something new about my 580 EX that I didn’t know before! I would highly recommend it to expand your knowledge of how to use your flash(es).

Pizza For Lunch

Rebecca was very excited to have Mommy’s homemade pizza for lunch today. So happy in fact that I just had to snap her picture!

Even More Snow

Well today brought round 2 of the crazy amount of snow we’ve been getting. Hopefully it is over for a while, but the way this winter is going who knows. Anyway, here is a picture of Mommy and Rebecca watching the snow fall.

Snow Dog

This crazy dog loves the snow! She will spend hours outside playing in it and running through it. Even with more than two feet, she still plows through it and has a blast! I was a little unhappy with this picture because the upper right-hand corner is overexposed, but c’est la vie!

Another Rebecca Post

Well Rebecca is once again gracing my 365 project. Today she was playing with her mommy’s back massager and decided to sit on it. I think it surprised her when she did!

Self Portrait

So today is my first day in the project posting a photo of myself. This is a pine tree in our backyard that is still covered in snow. The dog was supposed to be in the picture with me, but she wouldn’t cooperate, so you’ll have to settle for only me.

Sitting On Top Of A Mountain

Well of course I couldn’t let today go by without posting a shot of Rebecca in the snow. She really enjoyed being out tonight, but stayed in the shoveled areas, otherwise she sunk in to her chest! The blizzard has certainly left us with a lot of snow and I will definitely have more snow photos to post over the next few days.

A Blizzard Strikes

Apparently this storm is going to be quite a whopper. It may dump over 2 feet of snow here in Annapolis over the next 24 hrs. With rates as high as 2-3 inches per hour, it is possible we will see a lot more than that. Only time will tell. Anyway, here is a picture from tonight. I took it using a long exposure and manually firing my flash to capture the snow. (It also inadvertently caused the tree to slightly overexpose) The orange glow in the background is the light from the shopping center nearby, it makes it quite bright on snowy nights. My goal for tomorrow is to photograph a single snowflake. We will see how it goes!

Playing the Piano

Rebecca had some friends over last night and thoroughly enjoyed playing with them. Although he’s not pictured, her good friend David was sitting right next to her on the piano and they were both playing away! I won’t say it sounded pretty, but it sure was fun to watch!

I was really happy with this picture and most of the other ones with it because I was shooting at ISO 1600 and it came out pretty good! I was expecting a lot more grain in the shot, but I think it came out very nicely.

Snow Flakes

Another beautiful snowfall here in Maryland. This particular snow was a heavy wet snow, great for making snowmen, snowballs and more importantly sticking to everything, including our metal fence. It was very beautiful seeing the snow on everything and neat to see it sticking in the spaces in the fence. This is a close up of some of that snow with trees and the sun in the background.

Even though that picture is the photo of the day, I had to post a 100% crop of it because this snowflake is hanging and has retained its crystalline structure.
